Two years ago – almost exactly to this day – FountLondon opened the gates to it’s three railway arches; FountNursery being one of them. Since that day, FountLondon – and FountNursery – has gone from strength to strength. Our aim is to provide the entire community with activities, interests, events and a home away from home. For those of you who have visited us, we hope you’ll agree with us. For those of you yet to visit…what are you waiting for?
Il Cudega, the ‘Eat’ aspect of our ethos, has recently received a FOUR STAR review in the Evening Standard; their incredible, authentic Lombardy food provides customers with a taste of Italy, without the flights. We personally cannot recommend them enough – although we are biased – and we can’t thank them enough for their caffeine fix most mornings. The coffee…well, you need to try it for yourself.
East End Prints, our resident shop, now stock their cards in Habitat, Urban Outfitters and Scribblr (to name a few) and they’ve just held an successful event, sponsored by Forest Road Brewery, Sazzy and Fran Café and the East London Local Pound. Adding to the ‘Shop’ segment of FountLondon, our pop-up shop space has also been transformed by so many amazing start-ups and brands, we’re a bit overwhelmed by the magic that’s happened over the last two years, and the magic that will no doubt continue as we see more brands appear on site.
It’s safe to say that the last two years have been full of adventure, positivity and excitement. But wait, we’ve got more…
Described as ‘cool’, ‘urban’ and ‘chic’, FountNursery acts as the heart of the brand. Every day, the nursery shapes the children entering it’s doors, helping them grow and develop towards the future that’s before them. Every aspect – from the staff, the food, the interiors, the places the children visit on a daily basis – is planned to ensure the children get the utmost from their time at FountNursery. It’s considered with love, care and enthusiasm, which we believe is evident in how happy the children are.
Back in May, FountNursery had a visit from Ofsted; whilst the outcome wasn’t what we had hoped for (and one we definitely argued against), it gave us points of development and the support we received from parents, friends of FountLondon and the community was truly wonderful. We could use this opportunity to state our case, argue the rules and regulation Ofsted have in place, explaining that just like the education system itself, not everything can be graded academically or ‘by the books’. That children at FountNursery are stimulated from 8am to 6pm, from the food they eat, to staff interaction, to outings. That some things cannot be marked by paperwork. But we don’t need to explain…the children, and their development, enjoyment and happiness can speak for themselves.
However, we do believe in progression – after all, we nurture the small things (from start-ups to children) – and work hard, as a team, to ensure that we can iron out the creases. Which leads us to announce the following:
Two weeks ago, we were once again visited by Ofsted; after a long day, in which staff worked incredibly hard, and an even longer two weeks waiting for the news, we are so pleased to announce that FountNursery has been given an ‘Outstanding’ setting. From ‘Inadequate’ to ‘Outstanding’, we feel like the nursery has finally been given the correct grading and we’d like to thank every single person who has supported us (staff, parents, businesses, brands, individuals, you’re all pretty brilliant) and helped us achieve this result.
It was said on the day of the inspection that FountLondon, and the nursery, has a calm, serene atmosphere and there is a real air of community; this sentence alone is a huge compliment to us.
As each aspect of FountLondon grows, with good news across the site, we’re also extremely pleased to announce that we are soon to be expanding. In February 2018, we’ll be taking over Hackney Central, and in early Spring 2018, Shoreditch. The good news couldn’t have come at a more appropriate time.
